The Akari Spherical A Series Pendant Light is more than a light fixture — it is a sculptural piece of considered atmosphere. Each shade is hand-stretched by artisans using authentic Washi paper over a reinforced bamboo and iron frame, producing a serene round silhouette that instantly transforms any room into a tranquil sanctuary. When lit, the dense Washi paper filters harsh bulb light into a soft, diffuse, golden amber glow — closer to candlelight than electric light, with the texture and warmth that only handmade paper can deliver.
Available in eleven sizes from 11.8″ diameter for bedside and small-room installations, up to a statement-scale 47.2″ for grand foyers, double-height living rooms, and open-plan dining spaces. Is this made from real mulberry paper?+
Yes. Each shade is made from genuine mulberry paper, traditionally crafted from the inner bark of the mulberry tree and stretched by hand over the frame — never printed film or synthetic imitation.
Why does each lamp look slightly different?+
Because the paper is handmade, the fibers, thickness, and texture vary slightly from sheet to sheet. These gentle variations are the mark of genuine handcraft — proof that yours is one of a kind, not a defect.
What kind of light does it give off?+
A soft, warm, diffused glow with no harsh glare. Light passes through the natural paper fibers and fills the room evenly — calm and inviting, much like light through a paper lantern.
What bulb should I use?+
A warm white LED (2700–3000K). LED is essential with a paper shade — it stays cool and protects the paper. Avoid hot incandescent or halogen bulbs. Check your fixture's base type and maximum wattage before buying.
Will the paper yellow or tear over time?+
Quality mulberry paper is surprisingly strong and, kept dry and paired with a cool LED, holds its color and integrity for years. Avoid moisture, direct handling of the paper, and hot bulbs to keep it looking its best.
How do I clean it?+
Dust gently with a dry, soft cloth or a feather duster, handling it by the frame. Never use water, sprays, or cleaning chemicals on the paper.
What rooms is it best for?+
It's ideal for bedrooms, living rooms, reading corners, tea rooms, entryways, and meditation spaces — anywhere you want warm, calming light. Keep it away from moisture, so it's not suited to bathrooms or covered outdoor areas.
Can I install it myself?+
Plug-in styles need no wiring. For hardwired ceiling versions, we recommend a licensed electrician, especially for high ceilings. Always turn off power at the breaker first.
